Callaway Rogue ST Drivers

The new Callaway Rogue ST Driver line represents a significant leap for a manufacturer that continues to push the limits of metal wood technology. Callaway’s new lines include four different models, each of which is tailored to a different type of golfer. One constant among each of the Rogue ST drivers, however, is an impressive combination of speed and stability that makes it easier than ever to hit the ball long and straight. The four Callaway iron models are the Rogue ST Max, the Rogue ST Max OS, the Rogue ST Max OS, and the Rogue ST Pro.

The Rogue ST Max Irons are hyper-long, high-launching clubs that will fit well in the bags of almost all middle and high handicap golfers. Next, the Rogue ST Max OS Irons are oversized, highly forgiving, irons best suited for higher handicappers. The Rogue ST Max OS Lite Irons are lightweight versions of the Rogue ST Max OS’, and will perform most optimally in the hands of those with slower swing speeds. The new Callaway drivers feature more of the company’s investment into Artificial Intelligence, driving explosive ball speeds and forgiveness through unique designs that only a computer could come up with. In the 2021 Epic drivers, Callaway used Artificial Intelligence to refine its trademark Jailbreak technology and create the Jailbreak A.I. Speed Frame. This construction connects the sole and crown together and sits behind the new A.I.-designed Flash Face SS21, providing both horizontal and vertical stability throughout the clubhead.

The Epic Speed driver is the fastest of the three Epic driver models due to its Cyclone Aero Shape and will fit into the widest range of golfers. The Epic Max is the most forgiving of the three models and will be especially beneficial for golfers that want some extra help launching the ball into the air and help on off-center contact. The Epic Max LS is the lowest-spinning head, but is also built with high-forgiveness properties to help the high swing speed player that wants added forgiveness on mis-hits.

Callaway also used Artificial Intelligence to refine Jailbreak Technology in the fairway woods, forming the Jailbreak A.I. Velocity Blades. Overall, the Epic fairway woods deliver incredible ball speeds on center strikes, but also provide consistency when the club “twists” at impact thanks to a mis-hit.

The Epic Speed fairway wood includes a more forward center of gravity and a mid-size head shape, which will likely be a better fit for a high swing speed player looking to reduce spin or work the ball. Meanwhile, the Epic Max fairway wood has a larger footprint with more weight brought deep and back in the clubhead to promote high launch and forgiveness.

Jailbreak Technology has been featured in Callaway hybrids over the years, so it makes sense that Callaway would also refine Jailbreak in its new Apex 21 hybrids. Just like the Epic fairway woods, the Apex 21 hybrids include the Jailbreak A.I. Velocity Blades, a structure that adds stability to the clubhead both vertically and horizontally while adding a boost of ball speed just behind the A.I.-designed Flash Face SS21.

Additionally, all three models feature a forged 1025 carbon steel body and patented urethane microspheres designed to provide excellent feel.

The standard Apex 21 irons fall into the players-distance iron category, packing a distance punch but also delivering workability and lower spin for golfers in the low- to mid-handicap range. The Apex DCB 21 irons fall into the game-improvement iron with slightly stronger lofts and a deep cavity back to offer high launch and forgiveness for a player in the mid- to high-handicap range. Lastly, the Apex Pro 21 offers a compact, blade-like appearance that will appeal to more consistent ball-strikers.

Callaway always delivers with its irons, so it’s no surprise that the new Apex MB and X Forged models check every box in the players iron category: soft feel, sleek look, and ultimate workability. The Apex MB model features a compact blade shape with a thin topline and stunning chrome finish. The high performance 20V grooves are designed to deliver consistent flights and spin from any lie. The most notable innovation is the new weight screw located in the center of the clubhead that allows for precise swingweight adjustments while keeping the center of gravity consistent.

Meanwhile, the Callaway X Forged CB irons provide a little more forgiveness in the players iron category, featuring a shallow cavity construction. The shape is still compact with a thin topline and small amount of offset. The forgiveness comes from tungsten weighting, both internal and external, that adds more stability to the clubhead on off-center contact. Additionally, the external tungsten weighting is visible in the form of a weight plate that allows for swingweight adjustments without changing the center of gravity.

The Big Bertha series from Callaway has been a favorite for higher-handicap golfers for decades. New in 2020 is the Big Bertha B21 series, headlined by a new construction designed to fix a slice. The Big Bertha B21 driver includes many of the same technological innovations that have made Callaway metalwoods so great the past few years, such as Jailbreak technology (two internal bars that connect the sole and crown just behind the clubface for improved stability and speed) and Flash Face SS21 technology (clubface architecture designed with Artificial Intelligence).

The new construction focuses on the center of gravity. While most game-improvement clubs include a low and deep center of gravity to increase launch, that design can also increase spin and sidespin. The Big Bertha B21 driver features a low and forward center of gravity inside a high-MOI clubhead to reduce spin while maintaining the excellent forgiveness Big Bertha products are known for.

Just like the drivers, the Big Bertha B21 fairway woods are also designed to reduce a slice. Inside the Big Bertha B21 fairway wood clubhead is draw-biased weighting to combat the slice or block. Callaway also worked to help golfers get the ball off the turf more efficiently with these fairway woods by making the faces shallower and increasing offset.

The Big Bertha B21 fairway woods also include Jailbreak technology and Flash Face SS21 technology, which are both designed to improve ball speed and forgiveness. Jailbreak features two internal bars connecting the sole and crown behind the clubface. Meanwhile, Flash Face SS21 is a clubface architecture designed with the help of Artificial Intelligence.

The Big Bertha B21 hybrids feature many of the same innovations as the driver and fairway woods, including the internal draw-biased weighting, Jailbreak technology, and Flash Face SS21 technology that all combine to promote straight ball flights, high launch, and exceptional forgiveness.

Unique to the Big Bertha B21 hybrids is the dual MIM’ed tungsten weights placed in the sole near the back of the club to further increase launch. This technology is aimed at golfers who struggle to get the ball high enough to hold the green with a hybrid.

Big Bertha irons have always included a large profile, wide sole, and notable offset. Oh, and forgiveness -- lots of forgiveness. That hasn’t changed with the Big Bertha B21 irons. In fact, Callaway says the Big Bertha B21 irons exude a super game-improvement profile more than some previous models. The Big Bertha B21 irons have both more offset and wider soles than the Mavrik Max irons.

The clubface of the Big Bertha B21 irons, has also been created with the help of Artificial Intelligence for a more optimized Flash Face Cup that provides help at the most common areas of the clubface where high-handicappers make contact. The Tungsten Energy Core also helps with forgiveness and launch by deepening the center of gravity.

Odyssey Triple Track Putters

New from Odyssey for 2020 are Triple Track putters, which feature the Triple Track alignment that has been so popular and successful on Callaway golf balls. More specifically, three lines are centered prominently on the putter head to help players improve their alignment, which is crucial when it comes to having success on the greens. Triple Track putters also utilize a new Microhinge Star insert that delivers a firmer feel than Odyssey’s White Hot inserts.

Stroke Lab Technology has also been implemented into the Triple Track design, as 40 grams of weight has been removed from the middle of the shaft and re-positioned under the grip and in the head to help promote a better stroke. There will be seven Triple Track putters in all for golfers to choose from, which vary in terms of head design from blades to mallets, as well in the amount of toe hang they offer to meet the needs of players with different stroke types.

Odyssey had tremendous success with its original Stroke Lab putters when they were first introduced and is now back with a new Stroke Lab family that it is calling Stroke Lab Black. Most notable about the Stroke Lab Black lineup is that each model features an elegant black PVD finish, as well as Odyssey’s new Microhinge Star insert, which will offer a fimer, more responsive feel than the White Hot Microhinge insert that was utilized in the original Stroke Lab putters.

Callaway first introduced Artificial Intelligence as part of its design process with the Epic Flash drivers, and it is now taking that technological investment to a whole new level with its new Mavrik driver franchise. More specifically, each of the three models in the Mavrik line and each loft option among the three available models has its own unique Flash Face SS20 clubface architecture, which creates optimal performance for different player types.

Mavrik drivers also feature Jailbreak Technology to maximize energy transfer at impact, while FS2S titanium has been used in constructing the clubface to create more ball speed. Additionally, the Mavrik fairways feature clubfaces that were constructed using high-strength, maraging C300 steel, which helps promote faster ball speeds, while Jailbreak and Face Cup technologies maximize energy transfer and help maintain ball speed from impact locations across the face.

Flash Face Technology is the biggest storyline when it comes to the new Epic Flash drivers, as Callaway utilized Artificial Intelligence to develop a faster, more efficient clubface. The new face works in unison with Jailbreak Technology to provide players with improved ball speed when compared to Rogue and the original Epic, as well as enhanced forgiveness. Also, a new sliding weight track is providing more customization options without sacrificing MOI.

As was the case with the original Epic drivers, there will be a standard version and a Sub Zero version available. For the first time in three years, Callaway is back with new Apex irons, a franchise that has been one of the company’s most popular through the years. Two models will be available, the Apex 19 and the Apex 19 Pro, both of which have been forged from premium 1025 carbon steel.
